Which Young European Will Emerge At The World Cup?

As the World Cup draw was announced yesterday, we can get a full insight of how well the players will perform in the 2010 World Cup. It’s going to be fantastic to see some of Europe’s upcoming youngsters take to the big stage, and perform excellently well.

The likes of Benzema, Walcott and Fabregas are already well known stars. I have chosen players which are not well known to people around the footballing world. It is important to look at the amount of caps these young players have won over the past year, which will put them in good shape of a chance to be picked for their respective international teams for the upcoming 2010 World Cup. I have come up with a shortlist of three players, of whom I think will emerge from the World Cup as the new young star of European Football…

3) Davide Santon – Italy & Inter Milan
The right-back has already caught the attention of some of football’s top managers and pundits, as Davide Santon has been tipped as the next big star of Italian football. Santon has received praise from some of Europe’s top names, Cristiano Ronaldo said, ”I was impressed with Santon” Ronaldo said that after Davide Santon made his Champions League debut against Manchester United last season. For Italy the 18 year old has been capped five times as he made his debut against Northern Ireland. In recent games that the Italian’s have played Santon hasn’t been chosen, as he sustained a knee injury earlier in the season which will keep him out of action until the end of this month.

2) Eljero Elia - Netherlands & Hamburg
Eljero Elia burst onto the international scene as he netted the winning goal against Scotland in a 2010 World Cup Qualifier. Elia has already been linked with Arsenal of the English Premier League, however he has only recently signed for German side Hamburg, as he made the switch from his former club FC Twente in July. Eljero Elia has been made into a regular figure for the Netherlands international side, as Elia has started in three consecutive international games. Elia will surely catch the eye in the 2010 World Cup.

1) Hugo Lloris – France & Lyon
Lloris could well establish himself as one of the Worlds best goalkeepers in a couple of year’s time. Hugo Lloris is an ever present figure in the Lyon side, and also he has become the regular goalkeeper in France’s international set-up. Only 22 years of age he has already been tipped as a new signing for Manchester United plus many other world class club teams. He was the hero in the controversial qualifying match between France and Republic of Ireland, as he made some brilliant saves. Lloris could well shine if picked as France’s number one at the World Cup. I think Hugo Lloris will emerge from the World Cup as a star.

  1. Challenge Feedback Says:

Excellent first couple of pargraphs as an introduction
The Davide Santon section doesn’t flow very well.
Very good use of images and captions for your article and excellent spelling.
It was interesting to read about the three players, I felt the article stopped very quickly, it would have been nice to have a conclusion to it.
