Ritual animal slaughter planned for 2010 opening ceremony
South African leaders are planning to perform ritual animal slaughters to confirm all of the stadiums open for the 2010 World Cup.
Zolani Mkiva, in charge of organising cultural activities for the tournament, said that the tournament needed to be blessed in true style.

Mkiva said: “We must have a cultural ceremony of some sort, where we are going to slaughter a beast (cow). We sacrifice the cow for this great achievement and we call on our ancestors to bless, to grace, to ensure that all goes well. It’s all about calling for the divinity to prevail for a fantastic atmosphere.”
Mkiva said the Trust has sent letters to the chief executive and chairman of the World Cup Local Organizing Committee, proposing the animal sacrifice ceremonies. Officials have yet to respond to the request although the proposal is set to cause controversy from different groups around the world.

I started an ePetition to try and stop this from going ahead. It is VERY real and the method of sacrifice is extremely cruel and inhumane. On the petition site a link was added where you can view the method of slaughter. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/Stop-2010-World-Cup-Animal-Sacrifice
Sincerely,
Hosting the world cup soccer means everything to this ANC government. The best way to prevent the proposed slaughter of these poor hapless animals is for people to boycott the event should the proposed slaughter be given the go ahead. It’s time these traditionalists learnt that if they want to be part of the modern world, they must let go of their primitive traditions. Tradition is fine, but not if it involves cruelty.
I do not support this barbaric act of humanity! what era are we in for us – man – to partake in sacrifical ceremonies to confirm the opening of the stadium! Common, why are we doing this – subjecting animals to torture!!!
Ridiculous!
Why the hell is this cruelty allowed? This is sadistic and unnecessary. I want answers?
this needs to become more public, if anybody has any means of pushing any facts about this into the public awareness.
if this is approved or known of by the footballing body that organises the world cup i would be utterly unsurprised and very disappointed , hence name.
Completely barbaric and must not be allowed to happen.
It’s really interesting to read all these righteous comments.
Should I assume that all of you never eat meat? Or you are just hypocrites?
absolutly disgusting and subhuman!!
Hey, if they want to sacrifice animals; why not fill up the stadium & announce that there is a free iPod in the centre of the field & let them mangle each other to bits? No harm, no foul in my opinion.
